After having adopted a more modern emblem, Kia is now focused on reworking the design and style for several of its vehicle models. It will soon be the 2023 Kia Niro’s turn to hit the roads, boasting a completely new and stunning makeover!
Learn more about the 2023 Niro –coming soon-, starting with its brand new and bolder exterior and interior style, as well as new powertrains.
A brand new design for the Kia Niro
After the recent 2023 Sportage and EV6 models, the Kia SUV is following suit with the new “opposites united” design philosophy. It is showing off a much more modern style, like by abandoning the tiger nose grille for a more elegant and refined grille.
Black accents are added here and there for a touch of contrasting colors, like at the front and at the bottom of the flanks, while the rear spoiler is sportier than ever. As for the newest optional wheels, they come in a stunning shape that reminds us of a flower with five petals.
The vehicle also offers larger dimensions: length, width and height are all accentuated for the newest model-year. This allows for extra cargo space in the trunk, bringing it to 646 liters (hybrid model), but also provides us with more generous interior space overall, and greater legroom as well.
An eco-friendly interior
As mentioned, the interior space offers even more comfort. Moreover, Kia has made seats a little thinner in order to provide passengers with more space still.
While on the subject of seats, they integrate a new material made of eucalyptus leaves. This is not the only sustainable touch you will find throughout the interior: recycled wallpaper was used in the roof composition, while the door paint is BTX (benzene, toluene and xylene) free, a substance that is harmful to the environment. The headrests were also made with recycled wallpaper as well.
As you can see, modernity is key, and this is also apparent in the improved technologies offered. For example, it is possible for you to connect to the wireless infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto applications.
As an option, the dashboard offers two 10.25- inch screens that are linked together to form one unit, as well as optional head-up display. When it comes to comfort and features, you will find, depending on selected version:
- Heated front seats
- Ventilated front seats
- An adjustable driver’s seat with memory function
- Ambient lighting, and much more!
Safe to say that, with the cutting-edge technologies offered and the sustainable materials used, the interior is truly focused toward the future.
3 powertrains
Just like the 2022 Kia Niro, the 2023 model comes in three trim levels:
- A Kia hybrid
- A Kia plug-in hybrid
- A Kia electric
The first offers a mild-hybrid system, an electric motor combined with a 1.6 L 4- cylinder engine, for a total of 139 horsepower and 195 lb-ft. maximum torque. No changes were made on this powertrain. It is coupled with a 6- speed dual clutch automatic transmission.
The plug-in hybrid version has undergone some improvements: the battery capacity reaches 11.1 kWh, and now offers an electric range of up to 53 km. Still combined with the 1.6 L engine, the electric motor takes on more power, going from 45 to 62 kW. This means you now have access to a total of 180 horsepower.
A new technology is also made available: a drive mode called the Green Zone. It utilizes the data from the GPS to automatically cut off the fuel engine in zones such as school zones or residential areas.
Finally, the electric SUV also offers greater electric range, which goes from 385 km to 407 km, making it more efficient than its competitors like the Bolt EUV, for example. As for the rest, performance stays the same: the 2023 Kia E Niro offers 201 horsepower and 291 lb-ft. maximum torque, thanks to a 64.8 kWh battery.
You can charge the battery with a direct current (DC) charger, allowing you to recuperate anywhere from 10 to 80 % charge in 45 minutes. For better charging times during cold spells, you can also opt for a thermoregulation system for your 2023 Kia Niro EV, which will help limit battery use.
Driver Assist technologies
Just as is the case for the infotainment system, safety technologies have also been improved for 2023. On top of the usual features, the package now also includes –as standard offered technologies:
- Precollision Assist with Pedestrian Detection
- Lane Keep Assist
- Blind-Spot Monitoring
Other features such as parking sensors are also available. You could also opt to make your daily drives easier by choosing an optional adaptive cruise control with a semi-autonomous driving mode!
The all-new 2023 Kia Niro will soon be available at your Kia Montreal dealership. Stay tuned for its official arrival date or shop for a 2022 Kia Niro while waiting for the newest model!
